Stephen Chivasa is a senior research scientist at Creative Gene Technology Ltd, located at Durham University in the United Kingdom. Currently, his research focuses on extracellular ATP and plant pathogen defense. Dr. Chivasa’s research has resulted in the discovery of the first definitive physiological role of extracellular ATP as a cell death regulator in plants. He also holds a patent for determining that extracellular ATP is a central regulator of pathogen defense in plants.
Dr. Chivasa attended the University of Zimbabwe, where he graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biological Sciences and a M.Sc. in Crop Protection. He received his Ph.D. in plant virology from the University of Cambridge and went on to complete his post-doctoral work at Durham University in the UK.
